GEORGE TAYLOR HYDE: BIOGRAPHY

George Taylor Hyde was born in Montreal, 25 August 1879, the son of George Hyde and Alison Taylor. After attending the Montreal High School he entered McGill University and obtained the B.Sc. (Arch. Eng.) in 1899. In 1901 he obtained an S.B.(Arch.) from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Hyde worked briefly with Taylor and Gordon in Montreal before practicing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (1902-7). In 1907 he moved back to Canada to work independently in Montreal before merging his practice with that of Percy Nobbs in 1910. This partnership endured until Hyde's death. Hyde became a member of the Province of Quebec Association of Architects in 1907, served as President in 1928, and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1929. He was also an Associate of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. He died 23 June 1944.

George Taylor Hyde, fils de George Hyde et Alison Taylor, naît à Montréal le 25 août 1879. Après des études secondaires à la Montreal High School, il entre à l'université McGill et obtient son baccalauréat es sciences (génie architectural en 1899. En 1901, il reçoit le grade de S.B. Arch.) du Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Hyde travaille brièvement avec Taylor et Gordon à Montréal avant d'aller exercer à Pittsburgh en Pennsylvanie 1902-07). En 1907, il revient au Canada où il entame une carrière indépendante à Montréal avant de fusionner son agence avec celle de Percy Nobbs en 1910. Cette association durera jusqu'au décès de Hyde. Hyde devient membre de l'Association des architectes de la Province de Québec en 1907, il en assume la présidence en 1928, puis il devient membre du Royal Institute of British Architects en 1929. Il est également membre associé de l'Institut royal d'architecture du Canada. Il meurt le 23 juin 1944.
