FRANCIS JOHN NOBBS: BIOGRAPHY

Francis John Nobbs was born in Montreal, 2 November 1912, the son of Percy Erskine Nobbs and Mary Cecilia Shepherd. He attended Selwyn House School and Trinity College School before studying architecture at McGill, receiving a B. Arch in 1936. He worked for a time for Montreal architects H.L. Fetherstonhaugh and J, Cecil McDougall and subsequently spent two years in the office of Nobbs and Hyde prior to serving in the Second World War. In 1945 he rejoined his father's practice as a partner until 1960, since which time he has practiced under his own name. He became a member of the Province of Quebec Association of Architects in 1938, served as its president in 1963 and 1965, and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada in 1960.

II fréquente la Selwyn House School et la Trinity College School avant d'entrer à l'université McGill où il étudie l'architecture et reçoit un bac. arch, en 1936. Pendant un temps, il travaille pour les architectes montréalais H.L. Fetherstonhaugh et J. Cecil McDougall avant d'entrer au service de Nobbs et Hyde où il passe deux ans juste avant de partir pour la Deuxième guerre mondiale. En 1945, il entre dans l'agence de son père dont il devient l'associé jusqu'à 1960, année à partir de laquelle il exercera sous son propre nom. Il devient membre de l'Association des architectes de la Province de Québec en 1938, en assume la présidence en 1963 et 1965 et est élu membre de l'institut royal d'architecture du Canada en 1960.
