Description
Moshe Safdie and Associates were unanimously chosen as the architects for the project by the Orlando Performing Arts Center Selection Committee after being shortlisted with 3 other architects. The complex was to occupy two city blocks in downtown Orlando, Florida, across from city hall. The program called for a state-of-the art public theater complex with a 2,000-seat lyric theater and a 600-seat drama theater, performance and rehearsal facilities for
University of Central Florida, an office building and retail stores. The design vision for the project was to evoke an urban garden. The project was to serve as “a living room for Orlando,” full of life throughout the week at all hours of the day.
