Mr. and Mrs. Bowie Houses, Alterations and Additions([1894]) 1400-1434 Sherbrooke Street West [684-688 Sherbrooke Street West], Montreal, QC, Canada Residential, Urban houses (attached) Client: Mr. and Mrs. Bowie Description: Architect J.H. Bernard designed this group of four houses, with the southernmost corner one at Bishop Street being larger and more elaborate, in 1893. Original plans indicate very ornate interiors but Edward Maxwell was nevertheless brought in the next year to add yet more mouldings and fittings for the rooms, mostly in the larger corner house, and to provide minor façade changes. Another commission some years later (43.1) involved major alterations, connecting the houses and expanding them into a large apartment complex. The corner house and the house immediately to the west no longer exist while the two others are occupied by commercial art galleries. Holdings: Urban houses (attached) | |
