625-629 Outremont Avenue, Outremont, QC, Canada
Residential, Apartment [basement, 3 floors, 1-2 bedroom apartment per floor]; brick and stone; steel frame

Client: E.E. Snowdon
Architect: E. & W.S. Maxwell

Description: In 1913, the Maxwell brothers designed three family dwellings for E.E. Snowdon. The apartments followed the typical Montreal pattern of triplex buildings, which consisted in having one flat per floor with an independent access from the street to each dwelling. The old plans showed an L-shaped composition with the parlour room facing the street, the kitchen located at the rear part, and the bedrooms and dining room on the middle section. The distinctive feature of these apartments were the oval dining rooms, a common pattern used by Edward in many of his designs for single houses as well as the two interior staircases at the front providing access to the first and second floors. The elevations showed a simplified façade constructed in brick and crowned by a severe wood cornice, which ran along the whole front. The two-story high front porch was composed with classical details, including Doric and Ionic columns.
