J.A. Cameron House(7/1910-7/1917) 609 Clarke Avenue, Westmount, QC, Canada Residential, Urban house [detached, basement, 2 floors, attic, 6 bedrooms]; brick; composite Client: J.A. Cameron Description: Designed and built in 1910-1911 with some minor decorative alterations in 1917, this robust mansion may have replaced a house designed by Saxe and Archibald architects. A complete set of blueprints is included and a site plan shows the footprint of a larger house with this newer house traced in pencil over it. Almost cubic and very cleverly laid out, it is entered from the north east corner. A small reception room faces east while the double drawing/dining room faces south and opens unto a large balcony. There are six bedrooms in total, four on the first floor plus a sitting room, and two more in the attic. Façades of pressed brick are capped with a hip slate roof crowned by a balustrade. A country house with similar features in Huntingdon for a Mrs. J. Alexander Cameron (310) was built for the same clients. Holdings: Urban house (detached, basement, 2 floors, attic, 6 bedrooms); brick; composite | |
