Description: Mr. Alexander Ramsay was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1840. He was the president of A. Ramsay & Son Co., Paint and Varnish Manufacturers, and President of the Dominion Plate Glass Association. In 1901, he engaged Edward Maxwell to make some additions and alterations in his factory located at the corner of Saint-Paul and Inspectors Streets, and for his residence in Westmount. Edward’s work related to the design of new decorations for the drawing room and sitting room, which included a highly ornate mantel for the fireplace, columns, dentils, garlands, floral ornaments and new mouldings for the ceiling and windows. Other details included a new entrance, casework, and furniture for the bedroom.
