Laurentide Pulp Company Store(-)
Grand-Mère, QC, Canada
Commercial, Retail store [detached, basement, 2 floors]; brick; composite

Client: Laurentide Pulp Company
Architect: E. Maxwell

Description: The available drawings in the archive shows that Edward Maxwell proposed many schemes for the store building for the Laurentide Pulp Company. The two-storey rectangular building was divided into nine bays, which were clearly defined by two types of projected pilasters: one wide and the other thin, placed one beside the other. The pilasters were ornamented with Ionic capitals, the shafts contained fenestration, and they supported the roof projection. The central bay contained the entrance flanked by one-storey Ionic columns that were set between the lateral walls and aligned with the front wall. At the parapet level, the central bay was treated with ornate, pedimented stone motifs.
