Col. Arthur Hamilton House(1899) Dorval, QC, Canada Residential, Country house [basement, 2 floors, 2 bedrooms, 2 servants' rooms]; wood; wall bearing Client: Mr. Hamilton Description: Col. Arthur Hamilton owned four properties built or altered by the Maxwell firm: 1140 Pine Avenue West (430); 1524 Summerhill Avenue (429) and a country house in Dorval. Edward designed this country house when he was building Bois-de-la-Roche (230) in Senneville. The house was to be built around an existing structure. The design included a number of elements used by Edward before: a recessed porch similar to that of the James Gardner Log House (417) of 1897; a hidden staircase lit by long windows with diamond-shaped panes similar to Inverneck (143) of 1895; and a loggia with high gables like those of the Minister’s Island houses. The floor plan was typical of the Shingle-style house plans, with a central hall, drawing room and dining room forming the core of the house and opening onto a verandah which surrounded the house. The ground layouts and detailed drawings for the fences accompanied the plans. The house was demolished for uncertain reasons.
