Mr. Joseph Store, Alterations(-)
Sainte-Catherine Street, Alexandra Block, Montreal, QC, Canada
Commercial, Retail store; wall bearing

Client: Mr. Joseph
Architect: E. Maxwell

Description: The alterations to existing store included rebuilding the storefront and the show windows; adding new screens and performing structural improvements. E. Maxwell also elaborated plans for alterations of a house owned by J.H. Joseph, at 28 Union Avenue (109). It is unclear if the client is the same person. A J.H. Joseph had a house built in 1860 on Dorchester Street between Sainte-Monique and Mansfield Streets. The Italianate mansion stayed in the Joseph family until 1911. That year it was purchased by Canadian National Railways and demolished. Again, no clear connection between Mr. Joseph, the storeowner, and the other Joseph is known at this moment.
