George W. Cook House, Additions and Alterations([1901]) Morrisburg, ON, Canada Residential, Country house [addition: ground floor: shed, kitchen, pantry, servants' hall; first floor; 4 bedrooms, dressing room]; brick; wall bearing Client: George W. Cook Description: On this property which included a very large stable for more than 20 horses, a greenhouse and a hen house, a wing was added to the existing house at a right angle. The exterior treatment (height, rooflines and materials) matched the existing one. Among the four bedrooms added, the largest one had a fireplace. G. Cook owned a Maxwell-designed row house on Sherbrooke St. at Elm (60). The stables were especially impressive with their sweeping shingle roof, their symmetrical composition organised around two towers capped by a conical roof, a scheme not unlike the train stations at Sicamous Junction (37) and New Westminster (41) for the Canadian Pacific Railways. Holdings: Country house (addition: ground floor: shed, kitchen, pantry, servants' hall; first floor; 4 bedrooms, dressing room); brick; wall bearing | |
