Description: In 1897, Mr. R. McDougall Paterson engaged Edward Maxwell to do a series of additions and alterations for his semi-detached two-storey house located on Drummond Street. The house is composed of four levels. The service facilities, including kitchen, laundry and two servants’ room, are located in the basement. The ground floor is organised around a central hall, which opens onto the dining, library and drawing room. The first floor contains three bedrooms and two bathrooms, and the attic level is provided with five bedrooms. The alterations and additions were basically related to the design of new ornate mantels for fireplaces in the dining and drawing rooms. Other alterations included a new oak floor in the drawing room and the bathroom, a wardrobe made of oak for the vestibule, and the remodelling of the front entrance stair.
