Description: Mr. Shorey engaged Edward Maxwell in 1895 to design some additions for his urban house located on Redpath Street. The existing house consisted of a square plan that accommodated an entrance hall, drawing room, dining room, and library on the ground floor, and four bedrooms on the first floor. Maxwell added a new volume at the rear containing a billiard room and two bedrooms on the ground level, and a sewing room on the first floor. The distinctive feature of this house was the elegant wood panelling and the decorated friezes with magnificent garlands and floral ornamenting on the walls. For the library, the drawings show a new tall mantle finished in marble with two large bookcases at the sides.
