Thomas Samuel House(-)
35 Côte-Saint-Antoine Road and Argyle Avenue, Westmount, QC, Canada
Residential, Urban house [semi-detached, basement, 2 floors]; brick; composite

Client: Thomas Samuel
Architect: E. Maxwell

Description: The house Edward designed for Mr. Thomas Samuel consisted of a two-storey residence that included Neo-classical as well as Georgian details for its façade. The front elevation was composed of a continuous cornice and balustrade, a two-storey high bay window from the drawing room, and a porch with classical columns marking the main entrance to the house. The layout followed the same distribution principles as Edward’s first houses, which were influenced by the Richardsonian Romanesque style. On the ground floor a hall opened onto a drawing room, a library, and a dining room. The kitchen was a spacious area located at the rear with a serving pantry. The first floor was laid out to include four bedrooms around the staircase and central hall.
