T.C. Davidson House, Additions and Alterations([1903-1904]) Mount Pleasant Avenue, Westmount, QC, Canada Residential, Urban house [additions: attic floor: studio, bedroom, washroom; altera-tions: kitchen] Client: T.C. Davidson Description: The T.C. Davidson House was designed by architects Brown, McVicar and Heriot (CAC 10.02) who had their practice in Montreal between 1895-1898. As originally built, it included a billiard room, laundry and servants’ room in the basement. The ground floor comprised of a drawing room with a bay window overlooking Mount Pleasant Avenue, a side entrance leading to the central hall, the dining room and the kitchen to the rear. The first floor included three bedrooms, a smoking room, bathrooms and dressing rooms. The attic was left unfinished.
The Maxwell firm was called upon less than ten years later to add a studio, a bedroom and a bathroom at the attic level. The upper floor alterations involved expanding and adapting the roofline. A smaller staircase was removed and the main one altered to reach the attic. On the first floor, the smoking room was opened up to the adjacent bedroom into a much larger room. The larger bedroom above the drawing room was turned into a sitting room. The studio was equipped with a splendid fireplace and a custom made table.
