Description: In 1899, Charles E.L. Porteous engaged Edward to design a series of additions and alterations to his urban house. The works consisted of a re-arrangement of the entire house’s layout as well as in its interior decoration. In the dining room and billiard room new sober mantels one with a terracotta panel and the other with two Ionic pilasters were included. For the hall Edward designed an impressive decoration finished with wood panelling. A massive Neo-classical stone porch marked the entrance. The first floor was enlarged to accommodate two bedrooms including a the servants’ room, a day nursery, and a dressing room, while the basement was re-arranged to include a servant’s hall, kitchen, and laundry room.
