C.E.L. Porteous House, Additions and Alterations([1899]) Edgehill Avenue, Westmount, QC, Canada Residential, Urban house [additions: basement: kitchen, servants' hall; ground floor: dining room, billiard©room; first floor; 2 bedrooms, 1 servant's room] Client: Charles E.L. Porteous Description: In 1899, Charles E.L. Porteous engaged Edward to design a series of additions and alterations to his urban house. The works consisted of a re-arrangement of the entire house’s layout as well as in its interior decoration. In the dining room and billiard room new sober mantels one with a terracotta panel and the other with two Ionic pilasters were included. For the hall Edward designed an impressive decoration finished with wood panelling. A massive Neo-classical stone porch marked the entrance. The first floor was enlarged to accommodate two bedrooms including a the servants’ room, a day nursery, and a dressing room, while the basement was re-arranged to include a servant’s hall, kitchen, and laundry room.
