A.S. MacBean Store and Apartment(-)
Lakewood, NJ, USA
Commercial, Residential, Retail store [detached, 2 floors, upper floor apartment]; brick; composite

Client: Andrew Simpson MacBean
Architect: E. Maxwell

Description: Mr. Alex Simpson MacBean’s Lakewood townhouse and store was built using brick and a shingled roof. It has a wide eave and a circular corner tower. Elaborated with a molded cornice and modillions, the entire roof was given a fine balustrade. A stone arch and windowpane is set above the door and over the large storefront window, lending an unusual atmosphere to the façade. A petite oval window with its own web-like pattern is centered over the front window, contrasting with three rectangular surrounding windows. The ground floor plan situates a waiting room in the tower space next to the front show room. Offices are located at the rear. A stairwell behind the waiting room leads to the apartment area with its bedrooms.
