Mrs. Robert Henderson House(1894)
29 Rosemount Avenue, Westmount, QC, Canada
Residential, Urban house [detached, 2 floors, 4 bedooms, 1 servant's room]; wall bearing

Client: Mrs. Robert Henderson
Architect: E. Maxwell

Description: The House for Mrs. Robert Henderson is a striking urban house, attracting attention with its large central bay window running the entire height of the building capped by a conical roof along west façade. The parapet above the conical roof has been transformed into an elaborate gabled wall. The parapet wall is treated with a different brick pattern, providing a beautiful backdrop for the projected conical roof at the front. The arched entrance doorway has been pushed into the corner towards the north and is flanked by carved columns. The small entrance vestibule leads to a hall, provides access into the drawing room to the west, the dining at the east, and sitting room at the south. The vestibule opens onto a porch supported by slender Doric style columns above which it becomes a balcony for the bedroom on the first floor through Palladian door opening. The drawing room bay window opening is connected to the dining room through the secondary opening of the sitting room. The stairs in the hall give access to the four bedrooms and a servant’s room on the first floor.
