R.C. McDougall House, Proposed Alterations(10/1913)
Lancaster, ON, Canada
Residential, Country house [alteration: ground floor: verandah, vestibule; upper floor: enclosed porch]; brick and metal

Client: R.C. McDougall
Architect: E. & W.S. Maxwell

Description: The proposed alterations to the R.C. McDougall House included a bold wrap around front porch with square chamfered columns. It was to be raised, made of brick, with a stone sill and concrete steps, with red quarry tile for the vestibule floor. Square Doric columns were to frame the doubled front door set with leaded glass partitions. There was no ornamentation or decorative detail to the exterior surface. The low pitch roof itself was made of metal. A ribbon of five windows wrapped around the first floor above the porch roof. Each of these windows was framed with columns as well. Other than this, no further window detail, neither woodcarvings nor window crowns. The archival drawings convey classical lines that emphasise a stately demeanour, lending an air of solidity to the house.

Holdings: Country house (alteration: ground floor: verandah, vestibule; upper floor: enclosed porch); brick and metal
4 Drawings: 4 ink on linen
2 Working drawings: floor plans, elevations
2 Detail drawings: foundation plan, vestibule
