O.R. Macklem House (White House)(8/1912 - 7/1913) 46 Reed Avenue, Saint-Andrews, NB, Canada Residential, Country house [2 floors, attic, 8 bedrooms, 1 servants' hall]; wood, composite Client: O.R. Macklem Description: The Maxwell brothers designed this house for O.R. Macklem, based on the same structure and interior layout as the Smith House Rosemount (609). This design was simpler and did not have Rosemount’s large service wing. The characteristic of the Macklem home is the special attention the architects paid to the overall estate design, which included tennis courts, courtyards, and landscaping. The distinctive feature is the broad verandah wrapping three-quarters around the house and the entrance portico. Fortunately, the main house has remained intact. Today, the property serves as the regional municipal park and the Welcome Centre for Saint-Andrews. Holdings: Country house (2 floors, attic, 8 bedrooms, 1 servants' hall); wood, composite | |
