Description: The Harbour Commissioners Office Building was owned by H. & A. Allan, who was the general shipping agent for the Allan Line of Royal Mill Steamships. The building stands next to The Allan Company’s Office Building (428) on 57 Common Street. Both these buildings were originally designed by the architect John William Hopkins. The Harbour Commissioners Office Building features a Neo-Baroque façade with a dominating tower. In 1913, The Maxwell brothers designed additions and alterations to the building, including the development drawings for floor plans, entrance, doors, and fixture details.
