Dominion Mahogany and Veneer Co. Ltd. of Canada Building(12/1911-12/1912)
[Ville Saint-Pierre] (Parish of Lachine), QC, Canada
Industrial, Factory [2 floors]; brick; concrete frame

Client: Dominion Mahogany and Veneer Company of Canada Limited
Architect: E. & W.S. Maxwell

Description: The Dominion Mahogany and Veneer Co. factory was built in 1911-1912 on land leased from the Canadian Car and Foundry Co. The latter had, in 1909, absorbed the Dominion Car and Foundry, founded in 1906. Its plant was located in Ville-Saint-Pierre, between the Lachine Canal and the Little River St-Pierre, still existing at the time. The new building for Dominion Mahogany and Veneer is a flat-roof, two-storey, $75,000 brick factory on a concrete frame. The east elevation facing the Lachine Canal has taller windows in banks of three in each bay on two levels, the ground and first floor. The rear or west side elevation has shorter windows and stacked on three rows since there are two mezzanine floors plus the ground floor. In plan, the heavy machinery (dryers, slicers, boilers) is found on the lower floor while the mill, the machine shop are on the first floors. The mezzanine has veneer storage spaces.

Holdings: Factory (basement, 2 floors); brick; concrete; glass; frame
