W.J. Wall Store(2/1909-8/1910) Bleury Street, Montreal, QC, Canada Commercial, Retail store [basement, 3 floors]; stone; composite Client: W.J. Wall Description: In 1909, the Maxwell brothers designed a store for Mr. W. J. Wall. The project consisted of a two-storey building facing Bleury Street and four-storeys at the rear. On ground, first, and second floors the plans showed an open space for the show room, while the basement level was designed for storage purposes. The working drawings indicate that the walls were plastered and the ceiling was covered with metal panels. Even though this was a small project, the interior was carefully designed. The office for Mr. Wall, the typist room, and the clerk’s office at the rear defined the open space on ground floor. The staircase, bathroom, and the elevator were located at one side of the show room allowing a continuous space for exhibition. Holdings: Retail store (basement, 3 floors); stone; composite | |
