R. McDougall Paterson Office Building, Alterations(2/1910) Saint-Sacrament and Saint-François Xavier Streets, Montreal, QC, Canada Commercial, Office building Client: R. McDougall Paterson Description: In 1910, the Maxwell brothers did some alterations to the office building of R. McDougall Paterson. The two-storey structure was finished in stone and crowned with a decorated cornice depicting a characteristic chamfered corner that emphasises the intersecting streets. The alterations consisted of the removal of interior partitions on the ground floor as well as on top floor plan. Variations on the plan’s layout were intended to create a more open space for the business. The first floor containing offices was completely re-planned to accommodate a more standardised dimension for these spaces. Although this building was practically redesigned in its interior, the Maxwell brothers deleted only one entrance door of the retail space on Saint-Sacrement Street. Holdings: Office building | |
