Residential, Urban house [addition: ground floor: kitchen, sun porch, verandah]; brick; wall bearing

Client: Alfred Joyce
Architect: E. & W.S. Maxwell

Description: The Maxwell brothers did some additions to the narrow-front urban house for Alfred Joyce in 1921. The task included the design of a new kitchen on the ground floor. At the front entrance, a new verandah was introduced. The archival drawings also show that the existing windows were decorated with the keystones. The bay windows of the house, which were simple in appearance, were enhanced by introducing the slender Doric style columns with elaborate carvings. The house was demolished during course of time and the land has now been transformed into a green space called Joyce Park.
