C. J. Hodgson House([1907-8])
714 Pine Avenue [formerly stood west of present 1534 Pine Avenue], Montreal, QC, Canada
Residential, Urban house; brick

Client: C.J. Hodgson
Architect: E. & W.S. Maxwell

Description: The drawings in the archive reveal that the Maxwell brothers designed a Romanesque style house for Mr. C.J. Hodgson on Pine Avenue. The steeply pitched roof, which capped the house, was elegantly treated with gabled dormers to allow natural light in to the attic floor. The cornice of the pitch was transformed into vertical projections and was covered with small conical roofs at the two ends of the front and rear façade. Two massive chimneys at the front and rear dominated the building composition. The drawings also show the furniture and cabinet details that were designed for the house. The house unfortunately no longer exists.
