The Maxwell brothers worked extensively with urban planners and landscape architects as they did with artists and craftsmen. The projects for Mount Royal Park was developed in accordance with Frederick Law Olmstead’s earlier work on the park. The shelter was a small open structure raised on a plinth and defined by eight thick, rustic stone columns supporting a shingle roof. Two generous stairs accessed the shelter.
