R.B. Angus House (Mrs. Margaret Forrest Angus and Dr. Charles F. Martin)(3/1912-1/1914) Redpath Street, Montreal, QC, Canada Residential, Urban house [detached, basement, 2 floors, attic, 5 bedrooms, 3 servants' rooms]; brick; wall bearing Client: Richard Bladworth Angus Description: R.B. Angus (268) had this house built for Margaret, one of his five daughters (all lived in houses designed by the Maxwell firm), probably on the occasion of her marriage to Dr. Charles Ferdinand Martin, in March 1912. Dr. Martin (born 1868), a physician graduated from McGill University in 1892, was a professor and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of his alma mater. The Redpath Street house is similar in plan, siting, (perpendicular to street, long south façade facing Saint-Lawrence River) and elevations to both the J.T. Davis (368) and Dr. Walter Chipman (266) houses, with curved gables and other Elizabethan details. The main floor layout is a simplified version of the Davis house, with the reception and drawing rooms to the east, serviced by an oversized hall facing north and the dining and billiard rooms to the west. Holdings: Urban house (detached, basement, 2 floors, attic, 5 bedrooms, 3 servants' rooms); brick; wall bearing | |
