Andrew Alexander Allan Billiard Room, Additions and Alterations(1907-8) 3433 Stanley Street [287 Stanley Street], Montreal, QC, Canada Residential, Urban house [alteration: billiard-room] Client: Andrew Alexander Allan Description: A.A. Allan, born 1860, nephew of Sir Hugh Allan and a vice-president in the Allan Line Steamships, had this house designed by Boston architects Rotch and Tilden in 1890-1891. In 1910, an extension to the southern façade included a lavishly decorated billiard room; the entrance porch was also added at this time. This elegant L-shaped, red sandstone-clad residence and its adjacent northern neighbor, the Hugh A. Allan (4) residence at 289 Stanley Street, became property of the Sisters of the Congrégation Notre-Dame and the École des Arts et Métiers in 1948 until its sale to the Union des Artistes in 1994.
