GEORGE TAYLOR HYDECAC Accession No: 52

DESCRIPTION

Twenty of George Taylor Hyde's (1879-1944) architectural projects, dating from 1907 to 19 10, are found in the CAC archive all designed prior to his partnership with Percy Nobbs which began in 1910. Comprised almost entirely of architectural drawings, the archive primarily documents a number of designs for domestic architecture in Montreal. Hyde was born in Montreal. He obtained a B.Sc. (Arch. Eng.) in 1899 and in 1901 he received a B.Sc. (Arch.) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Hyde worked briefly with Taylor and Gordon before moving to Pittsburg where he practiced architecture from 1902-7. In 1907 he returned to Montreal where he worked independently until he merged his practice with that of Percy Erskine Nobbs in 1910. Hyde became a member of the Province of Quebec Association of Architects in 1907, served as President in 1928 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Architecture Institute of British Architects in 1929. He was also an Associate of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. His long association with Percy Nobbs began in 1910 and lasted until Hyde's death in 1944.
