DESCRIPTION Best known as the architect of the Gothic Revival Basilica of Notre Dame in Montreal (1823-1929), James O'Donnell (1774-1830) was born in Ireland. He practiced architecture in Ireland prior to his emigration to the United States around 1812. In New York O'Donnell designed houses, churches and public buildings such as Columbia College (1817-20).
