DESCRIPTION

James R. Rhind (fl. 1888-95) was born in Inverness, Scotland. He apprenticed at the architectural firm of his brother, John Rhind. Another Montreal architect whose work is found in the collections of the CAC, Robert Findlay (1859-1951), also trained in the office of John Rhind. From approximately 1880 to 1888, James Rhind worked for a number of architectural firms in London, prior to emigrating to Canada and establishing a practice in Montreal. Rhind's most noteworthy project was the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, for which he designed details and supervised the hospital's construction.
