Renovation of 268 Summer Street
Renovation of 268 Summer Street
Client: Summer Street Eighty Group, owner; Channel Development Corporation, developer

The project involved the recycling of a steel framed warehouse constructed in 1898, into a first-class office space. The 72,000 square foot building was one of the first to be converted in the Fort Point Channel area of Boston. Original detailing was retained where possible and open-beamed ceilings and brick bearing walls were exposed. A protected colonnade was created which gave prominence to the exterior facade of the structure while reinforcing the entry. A four-story atrium was added to the design, located at the center of the building on the top four floors, compensating for the lack of natural lighting in the building.
