Powerhouse Hotel
Project Title
Powerhouse Hotel
Description
This project, winner of a competition sponsored by the City of Baltimore, involved the reuse of an abandoned steam-powered electric generating plant on a pier within Baltimore's Inner Harbor renewal area. The proposed complex consisted of three distinct buildings, built at different times. The design intention was to combine and convert the interiors into a 380-room luxury hotel, yet retain the integrity of their exteriors. The central chimney stacks would have been preserved and exposed, passing through a central lobby atrium as a reminder of the building's previous use. The roof would be replaced by terraced hotel rooms providing dramatic views over the harbor.
