Description
The objective in designing Guangdong Science Center has been to create a building expressive of the spirit of science, its sense of order, efficiency, and complexity, and the essence of scientific investigation, which seeks nature's secrets by rational processes. A second objective has been to create a building that optimizes its extraordinary site, a pivotal place within a specific regional geography, at the confluence of waterways visible from many surrounding shores. Finally, a third objective has been to create provocative and exuberant interior and exterior exhibit spaces which will communicate the Science Center's designated themes of Nature, Human Science, and Civilization. A series of flow-through outdoor spaces, galleries, gardens and promenades are designed to stimulate the mind and to connect the visitor to nature as well as to the educational exhibits within. The intention was also to integrate the neighbouring Eco-Park, waterways, promenades, and gardens into a cohesive whole, creating a world-class attraction that would draw people from the region and beyond.
