S.R. Ross Office Building(4/1912-11/1912)
Saskatoon, SK, Canada
Commercial, Office building: [basement, 7 floors]; terracotta and brick; concrete frame

Client: S.R. Ross
Architect: E. & W.S. Maxwell

Description: In 1912, the Maxwell brothers designed an office building for Mr. S.R. Ross. It was a six-storey structure built with a concrete frame and finished in brick. The front façade was an elegant composition divided into two. The base, consisting of the ground and first floor, was characterised by large panels of glass and a continuous terra cotta jamb with floral details. Crowning this base, the architects included the name of the project, "Ross Building". The upper floors were more simply treated but the ends were emphasised by decorative keystones and an elaborate parapet with terra cotta ornaments. The windows were grouped into three bays running from the second floor to the sixth floor. A stone course divided the base from the upper floors. The ground floor consisted of two stores with a common recessed entrance leading into a central lobby with two elevators. The typical floor plan for the offices was laid out along a double-loaded corridor.
