Client: Saint-Giles Presbyterian Church
Architect: E. & W.S. Maxwell

Description: Religious buildings formed a comparatively small portion of the Maxwell brothers’ work. The major church commissions were in Montreal. Saint-Giles Presbyterian Church represents one of the two early exercises of Modern Gothic in Montreal. The simplicity of the exterior treatment on red brick and the omission of the traditional tower, spire and pinnacles characterize this church. The interior arrangement of the church is essentially cruciform. A wide nave was flanked by narrow side aisles that ended where the transepts opened. Today this church is known as the Saint-Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church.
