Client: [Ottawa] General Hospital
Architect: E. & W.S. Maxwell

Description: In a site located on the shore of Rideau River and the cross of Wurtemberg Street and Rideau Street, the Maxwell brothers designed a proposal for Ottawa General Hospital. The project consisted of a large complex facing west and east direction and articulated by a main south-north broad corridor. The master plan shows a large open space as a main access to the complex on Charlotte Street. The administration building, which consisted of an elongated rectangular plan was located at the centre of the main access from Charlotte Street and the main wards wing building was placed behind it. At the rear of the main wings the architects located the buildings of: maternity, dormitory for male help, pathology, and laundry. The layout considered a future expansion by adding and identical main wards wing behind the proposed one. The distribution of the main building consisted basically of along block with a central hall and double-loaded corridor running north south direction.
